Trauma-focused therapy in Nipaluna/Hobart and online

Sometimes we know everything we could do to change things, but we just can't make it through the fog.

If you've been lying awake at night, tossing and turning, tried talking about it, and still find yourself stuck, there are ways beyond words that can help.

I offer in-depth therapy (weekly or fortnightly) and short-term, intensive therapy options depending on your needs.

Sometimes words are not enough.

I am a Registered Music Therapist with additional training in Guided Imagery and Music, somatics, EMDR and Internal Family Systems.

These approaches give us different ways of working with experiences that can be difficult to put into words, or that haven't shifted with talking alone.

In a session this might include listening to music, drawing to music, guided imagery, creative writing, or working with the body. We don't have to use these approaches and you do not need to be musical or artistic.

  • In-person therapy in the South Hobart Garden Studio.
  • Working across Lutruwita/Tasmania and nationally online.

Workplace trauma and the impact of demanding work

I work with people from a range of backgrounds and life circumstances, including people affected by trauma or difficult experiences arising through their work.

Many of the people I see are therapists and healthcare workers who spend their days supporting others.

Work can sometimes expose us to experiences that are difficult to leave at work. This may follow a particular incident or event, workplace conflict or harm, repeated exposure to distress and trauma, or the cumulative impact of working under sustained pressure.

I offer confidential therapy for people affected by distressing events at work, including healthcare workers and other professionals in high-responsibility or emotionally demanding roles.

You might be seeking support because:

  • you find yourself awake in the early hours, worrying about how long you can keep doing this work
  • you can't remember what it feels like not to be tired, overwhelmed, or under constant demand
  • it feels harder to rest, switch off, or feel fully present
  • everyday decisions seem heavier or more loaded than they used to be
  • you are carrying responsibility for others while your own needs are often pushed aside

The impact can show up in many ways: exhaustion, difficulty concentrating or sleeping, dread about going to work, taking extended sick leave, feeling increasingly isolated, or finding yourself working harder while struggling to do what once felt manageable.

For some people, the impact is more specifically traumatic. You may experience intrusive memories or nightmares, find yourself avoiding reminders of what happened, or feel constantly on alert, irritable, numb or cut off from yourself.

Therapy intensives in Nipaluna/Hobart

For some people, a therapy intensive can provide an alternative to weekly or fortnightly appointments.

Intensives involve longer sessions scheduled closer together over a short period of time, creating protected space to focus on a particular experience, issue or therapeutic goal without needing to stop when a standard therapy hour ends.

This format may be particularly useful for healthcare professionals wanting focused support following a workplace incident or period of significant stress, or for people who would prefer a concentrated period of therapeutic work.

Therapy intensives are individually planned and include preparation, the intensive sessions and follow-up.

Tempo Therapy Intensives are held in the South Hobart Garden Studio and include:

  • One 90-minute initial session.
  • Three 3-hour therapy sessions, scheduled across three consecutive days or three consecutive weeks.
  • One 90-minute follow-up session.
  • A preparation and integration workbook, with resources to support you before, during and after the intensive.

Fee: $2,442 (incl. GST). Private health fund rebates do not apply to therapy intensives.

Practical information

Liaison with other health professionals

Depending on your needs and what you are comfortable with, I can liaise with your GP, psychiatrist or other health professionals involved in your care to support a coordinated approach.

Do I need to be artistic or musical to participate in these sessions?

No. Using creative arts in these sessions is part of a process of getting to know yourself. You don't have to be an artist or a musician to benefit. In fact, I often encourage people to imagine they are 3 years old when drawing to remove the pressure to 'perform'.
